Scholars 2019

We congratulate the 2019 award recipients of the Women for ATSU Scholars Program and celebrate their achievements.

♦ Arizona School of Health Sciences ~ ASHS

Rudi Pohl was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She completed my undergraduate studies at the University of New Mexico, where she majored in Exercise Science. She is currently a first-year occupational therapy student at the Arizona School of Health Sciences where she is an active Student of Occupational Therapy Association (SOTA) member and hold a position on the social committee and as one of the Assembly of Student Delegate ambassadors. Rudi is a huge advocate for mental health and in 2017 brought the first ever National Eating Disorder Association (NEDA) walk to New Mexico where she has been the coordinator for past two years. She has helped to raise almost $20,000 to end of the stigma and raise awareness of the seriousness of eating disorders. Outside of school and volunteering, she enjoys spending quality time with her family and friends, being outdoors, playing sports, practicing yoga and doing arts and crafts. After receiving her Master of Science in Occupational Therapy she plans to assist individuals across their lifespan overcoming obstacles in their everyday lives and maintain or improve their independence. Ultimately helping them do more of what they need and want to do, in order to live life to its fullest. She is blessed to be on this journey and can’t wait to make a difference!

 

 

♦Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health ~ASDOH

Lillian Wang is a fourth year dental student at the Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health. After graduating from Washington University in St. Louis with a B.A. in Anthropology/Global Health & Environment and a minor in classical music, Lillian gained an interest in finding creative ways to serve the community. From oral hygiene education on mobile dental units to playing piano in nursing homes, she enjoys creative ways to combine her passions for art, music, creativity, and health when volunteering. Lillian is also pursuing a Master of Public Health with a dental emphasis, hoping this will open up opportunities to continue serving the underserved and reducing inequities in health. Having done community outreach trips in Honduras and Mexico, she hopes to continue combating health inequities not only locally, but also abroad. In her free time, Lillian spends her time hiking around Arizona, Yelping, and practicing aerial hammock.

 

 

♦ School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona~SOMA

Born in El Paso, Texas, Esther Habib grew up as a military kid, calling home several duty stations in the U.S. as well as some years spent in Berlin, Germany. Growing up, Esther traveled a good deal to “far off places,” participating in mission trips which sparked her love for medicine. She graduated from Arizona Christian University with her Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration and completed her science prerequisites from Arizona State University in 2015. For several years, she has worked in a Native American Community’s hospital just south of Phoenix specializing in Public Relations and Marketing. In between tests, she is passionate about several things (too many to list) including theology, art, outdoors, writing, languages, music, and being a mentor to children and teenagers.
